Responsible gun ownership begins and ends with gun owners, but we’re here to help with some resources. In alignment with Whitney/Strong’s mission, we’re distributing free gun safety kits to Kentucky residents in Jefferson, Hardin, and Bullitt counties. Your kit will include a gun lock (trigger or cable lock – availability will vary by location), safe storage tips and resources, plus a magnet to provide a mental health reminder.

Did You Know:

• 66% of gun-related deaths in Kentucky are suicides (CDC Data 2024)

• 82% of children who die by firearm suicide use a family member’s gun  (Means Matter: Youth Access to Firearms. Harvard School of Public Health)

• If 20% more gun owners locked firearms, 1/3 of youth suicides & accidental deaths could be prevented  (Monuteaux, Michael C. et al. • A study by the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health found more than 30% of guns recovered at crime scenes have been stolen (University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences. "Vast majority of guns recovered by Pittsburgh police not in possession of legal owners." ScienceDaily. 25 July 2016)
